DESCRIPTION
A fan clutch, also known as a viscous fan clutch, is a component of the engine cooling system in trucks. It is designed to regulate the speed of the engine fan based on the temperature of the engine. The part number for this specific type of fan clutch is 3862583. The fan clutch works by using a silicone-based fluid to transfer power from the engine to the fan blades. When the temperature of the engine rises, the fluid heats up and becomes less viscous, allowing more power to be transferred to spin faster and cool down the engine. Conversely, when the temperature drops, so does its speed due to increased viscosity. This feature helps reduce noise, save fuel consumption and prolongs both belt and bearing life in your truck’s cooling system.
