The Particulate Filter Module (PFM) is a truck component designed to reduce harmful emissions from diesel engines. It is typically installed in the exhaust system and works by trapping and removing soot particles, also known as particulate matter, from the exhaust gas. The PFM consists of a ceramic filter element that captures the soot particles, which are then burned off through a process called regeneration. This process can occur passively or actively, depending on the engine and vehicle configuration. Passive regeneration occurs naturally during normal driving conditions when the exhaust temperature is high enough to burn off the accumulated soot. Active regeneration involves injecting fuel into the exhaust system to raise the temperature and facilitate burning off of trapped particulates.
