DESCRIPTION
A Speed Sensor, also known as a Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), is an electronic device that measures the rotational speed of a vehicle's transmission. It provides input to the vehicle's Engine Control Module (ECM) and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) to ensure proper shifting and prevent wheel lockup during braking. The Speed Sensor uses a magnetic pickup to monitor the rotation of the output shaft or drive shaft, generating an electrical signal that is sent to the ECM or ABS module. A faulty Speed Sensor can cause issues such as inaccurate speedometer readings, transmission shifting problems, and ABS brake failure.
