DESCRIPTION
A thermostat (part number 4952629) is a temperature-sensitive valve used in automotive engines to regulate the flow of coolant through the engine block. When the engine is cold, the thermostat remains closed, preventing coolant from entering the engine block and allowing it to warm up quickly. Once the engine reaches its operating temperature, the thermostat opens up, allowing coolant to circulate and maintain a consistent temperature. This helps prevent overheating and ensures that all components are functioning properly. If a thermostat fails or becomes stuck in either position, it can cause significant damage to an engine by either running too hot or too cold.
