DESCRIPTION
The Main Bearing Cap, also known as the Crankshaft Bearing Cap, is a crucial component of an engine that holds the main bearings in place. The main bearings are located between the crankshaft and engine block and support the weight of the crankshaft while it rotates. The Main Bearing Cap is typically made of cast iron or aluminum and is bolted to the engine block to ensure that it remains in place even under extreme stress. It helps to maintain proper alignment between the crankshaft and engine block which ensures smooth rotation of the crankshaft. In high-performance engines, stronger materials such as titanium may be used for added durability. A damaged or faulty Main Bearing Cap can cause serious damage to an engine so it should be inspected regularly for signs of wear or damage.
