DESCRIPTION
A Main Bearing is a crucial component in an engine that supports the crankshaft and reduces friction between the rotating shaft and the engine block. It is located in the main bearing cap, which secures it to the engine block. The Main Bearing consists of two parts: a half shell bearing and a steel backing. The half shell bearing is made of a soft metal alloy that conforms to the shape of the crankshaft, while the steel backing provides strength and stability to support the weight of the rotating assembly. The Main Bearing ensures smooth rotation of the crankshaft, which contributes to efficient engine operation and longer engine life.
