DESCRIPTION
A Main Bearing, also known as a crankshaft bearing, is a component of an engine that supports the crankshaft and allows for its smooth rotation. It is typically made of high-strength steel and consists of an inner shell and an outer shell with bearings in between. The inner shell is pressed onto the crankshaft while the outer shell is mounted on the engine block. The bearings in between reduce friction between the two shells by providing a thin layer of oil to lubricate them. This helps to prevent heat buildup, wear, and damage to both the crankshaft and engine block. A Main Bearing plays a crucial role in ensuring that an engine runs smoothly and efficiently by minimizing frictional losses from rotating parts.
