DESCRIPTION
A camshaft is a crucial component of an engine that controls the opening and closing of valves. The camshaft, which is typically made of hardened steel, rotates at half the speed of the crankshaft and is driven by a timing belt or chain. As it rotates, lobes on the camshaft push against lifters or rocker arms, which in turn open and close the valves. The shape and size of the lobes determine how much air and fuel enter the engine, affecting its performance.
