DESCRIPTION
A camshaft, identified by part number 3899634, is a vital component of an internal combustion engine. It is a long, cylindrical rod with multiple lobes or cams along its length that control the opening and closing of the engine's valves. The camshaft rotates at half the speed of the crankshaft, thanks to a gear ratio, which means that each lobe on the camshaft opens and closes its respective valve at precisely timed intervals. The shape and size of each lobe determines how long and wide each valve stays open for, controlling the amount of air and fuel that enters and exits each cylinder during combustion. Camshafts come in various designs based on engine type and application but are typically made from hardened steel to withstand constant use under high pressure.
