DESCRIPTION
The engine crankshaft, also known as the crank, is a key component of a truck's engine. It is responsible for converting the linear motion of the pistons into rotational motion that drives the wheels. The crankshaft is typically made from high-strength steel and has several bearing surfaces to support it within the engine block. As the pistons move up and down in their cylinders, they impart force onto the connecting rods which are attached to the crankshaft. The circular motion of the crankshaft in turn rotates gears within the transmission which ultimately drive the wheels.
