DESCRIPTION
An Exhaust Brake is a device that restricts the flow of exhaust gases from the engine, creating backpressure that slows down the vehicle. It is typically used in diesel engines to provide additional braking power and reduce wear on the vehicle's brakes. The Exhaust Brake works by closing off a valve in the exhaust system, causing exhaust gases to be forced back into the engine cylinders. This creates resistance against the pistons, slowing down the engine and ultimately reducing vehicle speed. The Exhaust Brake can be activated manually or automatically through a control system that senses changes in vehicle speed or grade. It is an important component for heavy-duty trucks and vehicles used for towing heavy loads, as it helps to improve safety and prolong brake life.
