DESCRIPTION
The Exhaust Gas Thermocouple (part number 3866885) is a sensor used in diesel engines to measure the temperature of the exhaust gases. It consists of two dissimilar metals that are welded together at one end, with the other ends connected to a measuring instrument. As exhaust gases flow over the welded end, it produces a voltage that is proportional to the temperature difference between the two ends. This voltage signal is then sent to an onboard computer, which uses it to adjust fuel injection and other engine parameters for optimal performance and emissions control. The Exhaust Gas Thermocouple plays a critical role in ensuring that diesel engines run efficiently while meeting increasingly strict emissions standards.
