DESCRIPTION
The Flywheel Ring Gear, also known as a starter ring gear, is a circular gear that is mounted to the edge of the flywheel in an internal combustion engine. Its primary purpose is to engage with the starter motor's pinion and turn the engine over during starting. The teeth on the Flywheel Ring Gear are precisely machined and hardened for durability and longevity, as they are subject to significant stress during engine start-up. A damaged or worn Flywheel Ring Gear can cause difficulty starting the engine or even prevent it from starting altogether. Replacement of this part typically involves removing the transmission or transaxle from the vehicle, making it a labor-intensive repair job.
