The gear housing is a component of the engine that encloses the gears and bearings of the engine's timing system. It is responsible for protecting the gears and bearings from contaminants and ensuring proper lubrication. The gear housing also provides a mounting point for the engine's accessories, such as the water pump and alternator. The part number 163533 is specific to Cummins® engines.
