DESCRIPTION
The Idler Gear (part number 3693161) is a small gear commonly used in truck engines to maintain proper tension on the timing belt or chain. It is usually located between the camshaft and crankshaft and helps to reduce vibration and noise in the engine. The idler gear rotates freely on its own bearing, allowing it to adjust to any changes in the timing system as necessary. While it may seem like a small component, without an idler gear, a timing belt or chain could become loose or skip teeth, causing serious engine damage.
