DESCRIPTION
A Coolant Hole Insert, also known as a Freeze Plug or Expansion Plug, is a small metal disc that is press-fit into the engine block to seal off a coolant passage. The Coolant Hole Insert typically has a raised lip around its perimeter to hold it in place and prevent it from popping out under pressure. Its purpose is to prevent coolant from leaking out of the engine block and causing overheating or other damage. Over time, the Coolant Hole Insert can corrode or become damaged due to exposure to heat and chemicals in the coolant system, leading to leaks. Replacement of this part usually requires removing the affected component(s) from the engine block and using specialized tools to install new inserts.
