DESCRIPTION
The Starter Motor, also known as the cranking motor, is an electric motor that is responsible for starting the engine of a vehicle. The starter motor receives power from the battery and uses it to turn the engine's flywheel, which in turn starts the combustion process. It consists of several components including a DC electric motor, solenoid switch, and gears. When the key is turned in the ignition switch, it activates the solenoid which engages with the starter's pinion gear to mesh with the flywheel ring gear. The electrical current then flows through to energize and spin up the electric motor causing it to rotate, turning over the engine until it fires up. As one of most important parts in starting an engine, this component must be kept in good condition to ensure reliable performance for your truck.
