DESCRIPTION
The oil pan is a component of the engine that holds the engine oil. It is typically made of metal and is bolted to the bottom of the engine block. The oil pan has a drain plug at its lowest point, which allows for easy removal of old oil during an oil change. The oil pan also has an oil pickup tube that draws oil from the bottom of the pan and delivers it to the engine's oil pump. In addition, some oil pans have baffles or trap doors to prevent sloshing of oil during high-performance driving or off-road use.
