DESCRIPTION
An oil piston ring is a circular component that fits tightly around the piston in an engine. Its purpose is to prevent oil from leaking into the combustion chamber and also to keep combustion gases from entering the crankcase. The oil piston ring allows for proper lubrication of the cylinder walls and prevents excessive wear on both the cylinder walls and the piston itself. It is made of a durable material such as steel or cast iron, and must be able to withstand high temperatures, pressure, and friction. Without a functioning oil piston ring, engine performance can suffer due to reduced compression and increased oil consumption.
