DESCRIPTION
The Idle Control Valve, also known as the idle air control valve or IACV, is a component in the engine management system of a truck that regulates the amount of air entering the engine during idle. It works by opening and closing a valve which allows more or less air to bypass the throttle plate. This is important because when an engine is idling, there is not enough airflow entering through the throttle body to keep it running smoothly. The Idle Control Valve helps maintain a steady idle speed and prevents stalling by adjusting airflow as necessary. The Idle Control Valve receives commands from the engine control module (ECM) and uses an electric motor to adjust airflow. If this component fails, it can cause rough idling or stalling and should be replaced promptly.
