The Catalyst Module, also known as the diesel particulate filter (DPF), is an emissions control device found in modern diesel trucks. It is responsible for trapping and reducing harmful pollutants such as soot and nitrogen oxides (NOx) from the exhaust gas before it is released into the environment. The Catalyst Module consists of a honeycomb-like structure made of ceramic materials that contain precious metals such as platinum, palladium, and rhodium. As exhaust gas flows through the DPF, these metals facilitate a chemical reaction that oxidizes and breaks down the pollutants into less harmful substances like carbon dioxide and water vapor. Over time, the DPF can become clogged with ash and soot particles which can negatively impact engine performance. When this happens, a regeneration process is initiated to burn off these deposits and restore proper operation of the Catalyst Module.
