DESCRIPTION
A piston ring set is a collection of rings that are installed onto the piston of an engine to create a seal between the piston and the cylinder wall. The rings are usually made of metal and have a split in them, allowing them to expand slightly as they heat up during engine operation. This expansion ensures that each ring makes contact with the cylinder wall, preventing oil from entering the combustion chamber and allowing compression to build up inside the cylinder.
