DESCRIPTION
A Flexplate is a component in an automatic transmission that connects the engine to the torque converter. It is also known as a flex plate or flywheel/flexplate assembly. The purpose of the flexplate is to provide a mounting surface for the torque converter and to transfer power from the engine to the transmission. The flexplate is mounted on the end of the crankshaft and has teeth around its circumference that engage with teeth on the starter motor, allowing it to turn over the engine. It must be designed to withstand high levels of torque and heat generated by high-performance engines. Flexplates can become damaged over time due to excessive wear or heat, so it's important to replace them when necessary.
