DESCRIPTION
The Lock Plate (Part Number: 4986282) is a crucial component in the steering column of a truck. It is a circular metal plate that is positioned at the base of the steering wheel, and its purpose is to prevent the steering wheel from coming loose or detaching from the column. The lock plate has several small holes drilled around its circumference which align with corresponding tabs on the turn signal switch and ignition lock cylinder. When the steering wheel is installed, these tabs slide into their respective holes and are secured by retaining clips which hold everything in place. Without this important safety feature, drivers could lose control of their vehicle while driving, leading to potentially catastrophic consequences on the road.
