An expansion plug, also known as a freeze plug or core plug, is a small metal disc that is pressed into the engine block of a truck's internal combustion engine. The expansion plug serves as a seal for the holes left in the block after it has been cast, and it can also be used to provide access for cleaning or inspection. The part number 551475 refers to a specific expansion plug used in certain models of trucks. Over time, these plugs can corrode or become damaged due to exposure to heat and pressure, leading to leaks or other issues within the engine. When this occurs, the damaged expansion plug must be replaced with a new one to maintain proper function and prevent further damage.
