DESCRIPTION
An Expansion Plug, also known as a freeze plug or welch plug, is a component found in the engine block of a truck. Its purpose is to seal off holes left during the manufacturing process where components such as camshaft bearings and oil galleries were installed. The Expansion Plug is made of thin metal and fits tightly into these holes, expanding when heated to create a secure seal. It is important to properly maintain these plugs as they can corrode over time and cause coolant leaks. If a leak occurs, the damaged Expansion Plug must be removed and replaced with a new one to ensure the engine operates correctly.
