DESCRIPTION
An expansion plug, also known as a freeze plug or Welch plug, is a small circular cap that is inserted into the engine block or cylinder head to seal off a coolant passage. The S716 expansion plug is designed to fit specific truck models and ensures proper sealing of the coolant system. Expansion plugs are made of metal with a slightly smaller diameter than the hole they are inserted into. They expand when installed, creating a tight seal against the surrounding surface. Over time, these plugs may rust or corrode due to exposure to coolant and other chemicals in the engine block. If they fail, coolant may leak out of the engine causing overheating and potential damage. Regular inspection and replacement of expansion plugs can help prevent this issue from occurring.
