DESCRIPTION
The idler pulley with part number 4987970 is a small, but important component of a truck's engine. It is responsible for maintaining tension on the serpentine belt that drives many of the engine's accessories, such as the alternator and power steering pump. The idler pulley is typically mounted to a bracket on the engine block or cylinder head and spins freely on bearings. Over time, these bearings can wear out causing unwanted noise or even failure of the pulley itself.
