DESCRIPTION
The Crankshaft Flange, also known as the flexplate or flywheel, is a component of the engine that connects the crankshaft to the transmission. It is designed to transfer torque and power from the engine to the transmission, allowing for smooth operation of the vehicle. The flange is mounted on one end of the crankshaft and typically made out of high-strength steel or cast iron. It features several bolt holes that attach it to either a flexplate or flywheel, which in turn connects to the torque converter on an automatic transmission or clutch and pressure plate on a manual transmission. The flange's design allows for some flexibility between engine and transmission, reducing stress on both components during operation. Overall, this part plays a crucial role in ensuring proper function and longevity of an automotive drivetrain system.
