A thermostat is a component in a truck's engine cooling system that regulates the flow of coolant through the engine. The part number for this particular thermostat is 3420883. When the engine is cold, the thermostat remains closed, preventing coolant from circulating through the radiator and allowing the engine to warm up quickly. Once the engine reaches its operating temperature, the thermostat opens, allowing coolant to flow through and maintain a consistent temperature.
