A thermostat is a component in a truck's engine cooling system that regulates the flow of coolant to maintain optimal engine temperature. The part number, 4973108, refers to a specific model of thermostat designed for use in select trucks. When the engine is cold, the thermostat remains closed, preventing coolant from flowing through the radiator and instead circulating it through the engine block to warm it up faster.
