DESCRIPTION
A breather tube, also known as a crankcase breather tube or ventilation hose, is a component of an engine that allows the evacuation of excess gases and pressure from the crankcase. The breather tube is typically made of rubber or plastic and connects to the valve cover or oil fill cap on one end and to the air cleaner housing on the other end. As the engine runs, it produces blow-by gases that enter into the crankcase. The breather tube acts as a conduit for these gases to escape from the crankcase and into the air intake system where they can be burned off in the combustion process. Without a functioning breather tube, pressure can build up in the engine which can lead to leaks, decreased performance, and potentially catastrophic failure.
