A valve insert, also known as a valve seat insert, is a component of an engine's cylinder head that provides a surface for the intake and exhaust valves to seal against when closed. The valve insert is typically made of a hard metal alloy that resists wear and heat damage from combustion. It is installed into the cylinder head by press-fitting or threading into place. Over time, the valve insert can become worn or damaged due to high temperatures and abrasive wear from the valves. If this occurs, it may be necessary to replace the valve insert in order to maintain proper engine performance and prevent oil leaks.
