The Outer Valve Spring (ME302317) is a component of the engine's valve train system found in diesel trucks. As its name suggests, this spring is located on the outer side of the valve stem and works to keep the valve closed when not in use. When the camshaft lobes push against the rocker arm, it compresses the outer valve spring and opens the valve to allow air and fuel mixture into the combustion chamber. Once the camshaft lobe releases pressure on the rocker arm, the outer valve spring returns to its original position, closing the valve and sealing off the combustion chamber.
