DESCRIPTION
The Manual Transmission Gearshift Interlock Switch, also known as the MTGI switch, is an important safety feature found in vehicles with manual transmissions. This switch prevents the driver from accidentally shifting into reverse or other gears while the vehicle is in motion. It works by requiring the brake pedal to be depressed before the gearshift can be moved out of the neutral position. The MTGI switch is typically located on or near the gearshift lever and is activated by a small plunger that is depressed when the brake pedal is pressed. If this switch fails, it can result in unsafe driving conditions and may prevent the vehicle from starting.
