DESCRIPTION
The Manual Transmission Gearshift Interlock Switch, also known as part number MC898460, is a safety device found in vehicles with manual transmissions. It is designed to prevent the driver from accidentally starting the engine while the transmission is in gear. The switch is typically located on or near the gearshift lever and must be engaged before the ignition can be turned on. When the clutch pedal is depressed and the gearshift is in neutral, the switch allows the ignition to be turned on. However, if the transmission is not in neutral or if the clutch pedal is not depressed, the switch will prevent the ignition from being turned on. This helps to prevent accidents and damage to both the vehicle and its occupants.
