1986 Ford Mustang

The 1986 Ford Mustang, part of the Fox Body generation, marks the last year of the distinctive “four-eyed” design. Engine options begin with a carbureted 2.3L 4-cylinder generating 88 hp, complemented by a 3.8L V6 producing 120 hp. The more powerful 5.0L V8 comes in two variants: the electronic fuel injection version with 200 hp and a 4-barrel variant delivering 210 hp. The performance-oriented SVO model features a turbocharged 2.3L 4-cylinder with 175 hp. Available transmissions include a four-speed manual, a three-speed automatic for the base model, and either an AOD automatic or T-5 manual for higher trims. Noteworthy features include the federally mandated Center High-Mounted Stop Light (CHMSL) and modifications like a larger clutch and stronger rear differential for V8 models. The LX is available in coupe, hatchback, and convertible styles, whereas the GT and SVO are offered as hatchbacks or convertibles only.
